My name is Andy McGrew. I live in Waller, Texas, northwest of Houston. I have always loved sports and competition since before I can remember. My first love was football, when I began playing at the age of 5. My father signed me up for full tackle pee-wee football and I played the sport all the way through my freshman year of high school. I played other sports along the way as well, baseball, soccer, track & field, and basketball. However, it was during my freshman year of high school that basketball took the center stage as the sport that I was most passionate about. It was at that time that I began to put all my energy into improving my basketball skills and focusing on competing at the highest level possible. I began playing AAU basketball, and attending basketball development camps.
My sophomore year of high school was a significant turning point for me in regards to my increased passion for basketball. At the beginning of the year, I was on the fence as to whether I would be on the Varsity or JV team. I ended up starting the year on the JV team. However, half way through the season, and after having a 36-point scoring game, my coaches decided to move me up to the varsity squad. I played in the final 10 district games and started 6 of those games. I averaged 8.1 points per game on varsity and had a 15-point game, a 14-point game, and a 12-point game. My season was highlighted when I was selected as Honorable Mention to the 19-5A All District Team. This really motivated me to continue improving my basketball skills, as well as continuing to excel in my academics.
I am a Christian and member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I believe in high morals and integrity and have been supported and encouraged by my faith and family to place those attributes ahead of all things. I am a member of the National Honor Society and have a class ranking of 37 out of 500 students while taking all AP courses. My desire is to attend college to pursue a degree in engineering. My goal is to find a great college that will provide an opportunity for me to play basketball and also pursue an engineering degree. Although I would like to play basketball at the highest collegiate level possible, finding a school that offers a good engineering program is very important.
I am dedicated to make it to the next level in college both academically and in basketball. Your consideration of me for your college basketball program would be greatly appreciated. I would certainly work very hard to improve your program in any way possible, and I would look forward to the opportunity to speak to you in more detail about myself, as well as your college basketball and academic program.
Thank you again for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Andy McGrew
