Hello, I am currently an 8th grade student at Tazewell Middle School and will be a 2026 graduating student of Tazewell High School in Tazewell, VA. At a young age, playing rec league basketball, I developed a love for the game. Through a lot of work, drills, shooting, camps and playing basketball in the driveway my desire and passion for the game continued to grow. My parents urged me to set goals in life, most of these required sacrifice on my part because, this is "my goal." These goals were physical, mental and required a lot of sacrifice from my not only myself but my family as well.
My goal is to play college basketball and I have a drive play. I would like to believe all players at this level should bring dedication, determination, goals, have leadership skills and a want to win attitude. What do I bring different to the table? I come to the table with the understanding that this is not just about, skills, basketball, school and leadership.
I have a conversation with my parents, about the commitment it takes to play college basketball, commitment to grades, commitment to traveling, commitment to the team, commitment to training and commitment to be the best. The amount of sacrifice it takes to play college basketball, is overwhelming... if you really think about it. The other consistent conversation I have with my parents, is about my body language on and off the court, on the bench, am I contributing to the team or am I draining the team. I am still maturing and growing, and having many conversations with my Coach's, trainers and parents about where I want to be in the next few years in life. Am I willing to sacrifice things that most teenagers wouldn't? Absolutely, its my passion.
I appreciate your time, consideration and hopefully opportunity to contribute to your team in the future.
Thank you,
Lane McMullen
