My goal is not only to play basketball in college, but to move the profession forward in my future career through coaching athletes, or working in sports administration. I would like to give back to the sport that has given me so much. I am looking for a school with both an excellent basketball program and academic record.
Coming from a small town with a graduating class of 60, playing basketball has always been a place for me to come alive. My passion for the game allows me to channel myself; my grit and competitiveness drives me to be the best I can be. I give everything I have, at every game. Given the world circumstances I have managed to keep my head down and train through my neighbors' gym, and outdoor courts.
This drive and determination was developed at an early age. Despite playing year round basketball in my small town, in middle school, I realized that in order to push myself physically and develop my basketball IQ, I needed to move to a more competitive program. So, in my freshman year, I took a risk, and moved in with my father, to attend Henry Jackson High School. Jackson High school has one of the best basketball programs in North Seattle. State tournament competitors consistently. With over 2,000 students and several feeder programs, there is plenty of competition for places on the team. Despite this, I earned a starting position on the freshman team and moved up to the JV team in my sophomore year. In the offseason developing through AAU and playing games I have grown. My AAU stance as of this year is to practice at Seattle Select as an alternate, and play games with Seattle, College Prep Wave. I love the position I am in, it allows me to compete on a high level.
Basketball has taught me to be resilient. It was difficult moving from a school where I was the best player, to being unknown and having a prove myself. I constantly draw in on my inner strength and the courage I learned from watching my friend Bennett. He eventually lost his battle with cancer when we were 11. He was my biggest fan, always there to play a game or shoot hoops. He taught me to give 100% and not to give up even when I think I can’t give anymore. Although I have all the opportunities there are things I can not control, I control my humility till it's my turn to excel.
My best attributes on the court are my speed, and ability to shoot. I am able to read the floor and motivate other players on the team. I’m always the one rallying the team, pushing everyone a little bit harder. I also work hard in the classroom and try to maintain at least a 3.9 GPA. With our season being canceled, and a short season with my high school, I have focused on weight training, daily ball-handling skills, and improving my cardio. I am always willing to learn from coaches and peers and am willing to work hard to move my team forward. I have kept myself in the right places and now I feel like it is my time to make a place for myself.
