Personal Statement

Hello. My name is Joshua Koch. I've always wanted to play basketball at the collegiate level since the day my brother forced me to play with him outside, I instantly fell in-love. I come from a small village in Northern Wisconsin. The community doesn't expect anyone to come out of our school due to its size and lack of accolades, and I want to show them that we have collegiate level athletes. I want to show the younger students that they can set their goals and aspirations high and have the faith that they can achieve them. This will help our community and the sports world as a result.

I do not take any moment or opportunity for granted based on the way I was raised. Therefore I will give you nothing less than my best. I will do whatever is asked of me and whatever is best for the team. I know that the coaches will always have the best in mind for the player and the team, so I don't argue with any decision made. Personally, I believe I am good at communicating with generally every type of person and can get along with with nearly everyone. I firmly believe in team basketball, so communication to me is one of the most important things. My three-point range varies from about one to six feet beyond the arc. I am a very skilled ball-handler and finisher at the rim. There are always things I can improve to benefit the team.

Academics is something that is almost just as important as the game of basketball itself. I play three sports that spread out throughout the year with about 3-4 weeks of no sports going on. I've been doing this the past two years, and Freshman year I only did 2 sports. I've maintained a 3.3 accumulative GPA throughout my high school career so far. Balancing sports and academics is not a problem for me. I know that without academics I cannot play the sports I am passionate about so it forces me to be passionate about school.
