Growing up the son of a high school athletic trainer, I was always on the athletic field or court with a ball in my hand. It wasn't until I was in 6th grade when I had a growth spurt and decided basketball was my favorite sport.
Basketball is very popular in my family, I had the privilege of watching 3 cousins play basketball at 3 different high level D1 schools. Those three cousins continued on to play in the NBA. Two more cousins played at the D3 level. Watching them inspired me to want to play basketball at the college level.
As a freshman, circumstances allowed me to play every game on the varsity level. I was able to adjust to different players, learn my role, and develop my outside shot. This experience earned me a starting position on the varsity team as a sophomore. Once again, being a team player with upper classmen and learning my role. Junior year was challenging with a new coaching staff. With only 2 seniors on the team, it was my opportunity to accept this change and step into a leadership role because of my past experiences.
In the last three years, I have learned to be a team player, be coachable, see the court well, develop an outside shot, get along with players and coaches, and work hard in the classroom as well as on the court. I hope to continue this at the next level.
