I would like to join a competitive diving program at an academically selective university in the United States. I thrive in a supportive team environment where I can challenge myself and in turn, support my teammates.
A latecomer to diving, I have been diving at the competitive level provincially for only a year and a half, and nationally since last summer. I have made rapid progress since I first took to the springboard three years ago. I am *super* enthusiastic to learn new dives and quick to pick up new skills. I come from a gymnastics background and have been lauded for my spatial awareness. Besides diving 15 hours per week, I focus on school and enjoy rock climbing occasionally.
This year I came in second in the province in the Men's Open and missed qualifying for Canadian Senior Nationals by only 12 points. My goal for next season is to qualify for Senior Nationals and improve my personal best scores. My goal during University is to compete at the NCAA level and qualify for NCAA finals. Ultimately, I would like to compete internationally with the Canadian team.
My family lived in Nepal for a year to volunteer when I was 11 years old which was an eye-opening experience for me. I learned to see the world from the perspective of a place very different from where I grew up. While there I attended an international school called The British School, which had a diverse student body and allowed me to experience a different approach to education. For example, I took 5 languages over the course of one year and volunteered with my schoolmates in a Nepali school for disabled children.
