Personal Statement

Hi. My name is Andrew.  I believe I possess a solid set of physical skills, as evidenced by my 13-year commitment to gymnastics which allowed me to reach an elite level. Those skills have translated well into diving and have allowed me to smoothly transition to the sport in July of 2020. I train with coach Marc Cahalane with American Flyers Diving, and I have experience on all springboard and platform variations. I may be starting late, but because of my background, I am learning dives incredibly fast. I have discovered a new passion for diving and I’m excited to see where this new path will lead me.  On that note, let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I have always been a dedicated and driven person. I am always focused on the task at hand. My collegiate goals and aspirations are quite simple: I hope to follow a path that I feel passionate about and approach it with the same dedication and hard work that I apply to all the  important goals in my life.

I believe I’d be a good candidate for a college team for many reasons. For one, I strive to put the team above myself. I have not only found  this to be helpful for my teammates, but also beneficial to my own mental state, as it motivates me to push myself. Instead of focusing on individual performance, I try to see the bigger picture and contribute to the team's success.   Furthermore, I have an unwavering work ethic. Completing what I set out to do is very important to me.   I’ve had years of experience balancing academics and athletics.  For this reason,  I believe that even if I’m not the most experienced athlete on the team, I know how to work hard, stay focused, and accomplish my goals!

One thing that sets me apart is the quick rate at which I’m able to learn dives. As I said earlier, my gymnastics background has helped me significantly, and because of this I was able to learn a 105c within  10 hours of diving practice.  Even though I may not be joining a college team at the highest skill level, I have an unusual ability to learn new things quickly.  With the help of a knowledgeable coach I believe I have the talent to be a successful collegiate  diver and a great contributor to a team’s success.
