As a three-sport athlete in diving, Tae Kwon Do, and volleyball, I have learned so much about myself
and have gained valuable life lessons. Diving and Tae Kwon Do are individual sports and even
though I train with a team, there is more pressure on myself and I’m competing against my
teammates. Whereas, volleyball is a team sport and a completely different environment as
competition is not as stressful as you are working together and relying on each other.
I have been diving since my freshman year of high school, and I started diving because my friends at
the pool said I was good on the boards and should join the dive team. Since then, I have improved
immensely in my technique and dives due to the leadership of my coach, Kelly Finkey. I have gone
to states twice, my sophomore year capturing 8th in AA and junior year 10th place in AAA. This
year I captured first place at the county and district levels becoming the first boy to win both titles in
Northern York County High School’s 22-year diving history. I was also awarded MVP for the 2022-
2023 season, which was a great honor.
Since I am the only diver at my school, fellowship with other divers at big meets is always very nice.
My coach is the coach of 3 other schools and I have noticed that practicing with the other divers, I
tend to do better all around when I can encourage, and be encouraged by them. I look forward to
having many teammates in college who are highly motivated to push each other and get better.
I have been doing Tae Kwon Do since I was seven years old, and this has contributed so much to
my life. I am currently a 3rd Degree Black Belt and testing for my 4th Degree, Master’s, this fall. I
joined the leadership team when I was eleven, and when I was fourteen, I became a paid instructor.
During this time, I have obtained incredible leadership skills that I would not have had otherwise. I
have learned so much about discipline and perseverance, and I am very thankful for the impact it
has had on my life.
I have been a straight-A student all through high school. In my junior year, I started doing dual-
enrollment classes through Liberty University, and have been very successful in those four classes
as well. I take my academics very seriously and I always strive to do the best I can in all of my
classes. In college, I am going to be studying pre-med, as I would like to become a surgeon, which I
am very passionate and excited about. It is very important to me that I get a strong pre-med
education before going into med school.
Even since I was a kid, I have been very talented in my athleticism. I pick new things up very
quickly, and I train hard to get better in everything I do. I am very grateful for this God-given talent of
mine, and I plan to use it for good. I am also very grateful for all the people who have poured into
me over the years to help me become the person, and athlete I am today.
