"Give 100%...100% of the time." This is the mantra that I adopted for myself and have applied to every area of my life. I am looking to attend a college where I will be challenged to achieve greatness in both the classroom and the pool.
As an 8-year-old child, I was terrified of the water. But, I was also incredibly bored attending my older sister's swim meets! So, during a week's vacation, I was determined to learn how to swim so I could join the swim team the following season. Within a year, I could manage a legal (though not fast or pretty) 50-yard freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke. But breaststroke was another story! In fact, I can still hear my first coach yelling at me in frustration, saying that she was, "done trying. your breaststroke is HOPELESS!" Well, to someone with my drive and tenacity, that was all the fuel I needed! After changing club teams, I was determined to work on my breaststroke and prove my first coach wrong! Fast forward seven years.... At this year's championship meet, I walked past that coach on my way to the medal stand to receive my gold medal in the 100 breaststroke, breaking my own school record, as well as the pool, meet, and league records! This dedication and determination are what I will carry with me as I swim for college and achieve my academic and athletic goals. I thrive in a team atmosphere where members and coaches encourage and challenge each other to push past adversity and discomfort in order to accomplish the unimaginable!
I am incredibly thankful for all the gifts and talents that I have been given as well as the people who have believed in me. I strive to make every moment count and learn from every experience in order to become all that I can be. I have lofty ambitions for swimming as well as in the classroom. Excellence is only achieved through hard work and dedication. I want to be part of a student body and close-knit team that positively challenges one another while fostering accountability in order to achieve and exceed goals.
