I have had an interesting relationship with diving throughout the years. When I was in sixth grade, I became interested in diving. I was watching a high school dive meet and thought diving was the coolest thing imaginable. I told my parents after watching the meet that I wanted to try diving. They sought out a club or a coach with whom I could work. Because I live in a small town with no clubs nearby, I began diving with the girl's high school dive coach. I practiced with him for approximately a month until he moved to a new town, so I could no longer train with him. My diving career was put on hold as a result of this. I didn't start diving again until my freshman year of high school. My freshman and sophomore years of diving were both self-coached, with only a supervisor watching me. I realized that having no coach wasn't going to work for me. The summer following my sophomore year, I joined a club team that was an hour away from my town. I understood it would be a significant time commitment to go that far for every session, but if I wanted to achieve my dive-related goals, I would have to be prepared to go to any length to receive the training I needed. This past season, my high school team received an incredible dive coach, who significantly improved our school's diving program. I was able to significantly increase my skills thanks to the combined guidance of my club instructors and my high school dive coach. With an almost 100-point PR increase over last year, I was able to win the state championship this year. I will regrettably be losing my high school dive coach next year after just one year of diving with her, but I am hopeful that I will still be able to improve as much as I did this year. I know that defending my state championship will require a lot of hard work and devotion, but with the support of my friends and family, I am certain that I will be able to do so.
Outside of diving I am also heavily devoted to my studies. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and I am taking multiple AP classes. I plan on continuing to maintain my 4.0 next year and have signed up for multiple more AP classes. I have a huge interest in science and am taking multiple science classes next year. I am hoping to pursue some form of science in college with a special interest in medicine. Aside from science I also enjoy math. Math has always been a topic that intrigues and entertains me. This year I have taken the PSAT, the SAT, and the ACT. I am a participant in multiple extracurricular activities including NHS, Forensics (Speech and Debate), Link Crew (Helping freshman transition to high school), and GEAC (Global Education Achievement Certificate). Without direct membership, I have volunteered in multiple other clubs including “The Thirst Project” and FBLA. In my final year of high school, I hope to indulge in a few new projects. I am planning to run for student council, join at least one to two more clubs, and organize a fund-raising event for a topic I am passionate about. Aside from typical studies, I am also extremely interested in languages. I have currently been taking Spanish for 3 years and plan to take it again next year. In college, I want to continue learning Spanish in the hopes of achieving fluency and a deeper understanding of the different cultures associated with the Spanish language.
