Personal Statement

My name is Will Fraher, and I am a passionate golfer who would love to play for your team.  I am also a passionate student having a GPA's of 3.4 my Freshman year and a 3.6 GPA my Sophomore year, and a 3.6 my Junior year.  I was also invited to be in a school program called AVID that pushes students to go beyond their limits.  Through this program I challenged myself with Honor's and AP classes and have grown so much as a student.  In my Senior year at Gilbert High I have set lofty goals for myself both athletically and academically.  First, I would like to have an iWanamker Scoring average, the system the Arizona Interscholastic Association uses for their rankings, below par and to qualify as an individual for the State Tournament and possibly lead the team back to the State Tournament for an unprecedented third straight year.  Academically I would like to try and achieve an unweighted 4.0 GPA while taking Honor's Level classes in Social Studies and Pre-Calculus.  I appreciate any and all consideration that you give me in considering me for your team.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • The Rivalry Cup
  • 9/27/19 to 9/28/19
  • Shot 81-80 on a par 73 course. The greens were scalped in preparation for overseeding which made them very difficult to read and the cause of most of the problems I had. I was striking the ball very well from tee to green but the inconsistency of the greens was the biggest obstacle I had to overcome this week. My scoring average for my best seven nine hole rounds, which is what Arizona uses for state tournament qualifying, is now at .479 which ranks me at 38th for all high school golfers competing during the Fall Season, approximately 400-500 golfers. For Division 1 which I play I am 22nd out of about 250 golfers. If you look at all rounds, nine holes, my scoring average is 2.39 and that puts in 50th place in Division 1. I have four possible events left and am guaranteed playing as an individual at the state tournament and am looking to improve all those averages.
  • Camp/Event
  • Nine Hole Match Vs. Queen Creek and Dobson
  • 9/25/19 to 9/25/19
  • Finished second in the event shooting +2 in very wet, sloppy conditions from a major storm the day before. Played pretty consistent just could not convert a few putts.
  • Camp/Event
  • East Valley Invitational
  • 9/18/19 to 9/18/19
  • Really good day on the course today. This was a one day, 18-hole invitational with 17 teams. I was never above par all round and finished tied for fifth place shooting a -1 70. The event featured some of the top golfers in Arizona Junior Golf, the winning score was an amazing -7. This helped my team finish third overall for the event. I had four birdies for the day and need to work on maintaining the momentum I gain from those to shoot an even lower round.
  • Camp/Event
  • Home Match #2
  • 9/17/19 to 9/17/19
  • Finished tied for fourth place in this nine hole event today going +3, 39. I had a good round going but one errant shot on Hole #8 cost me a double bogey.
  • Camp/Event
  • Superstition Cup
  • 9/06/19 to 9/07/19
  • Finished 9th out of 45 golfers going +9 for the two days. Two bad holes out of the 36 led to five of the nine over par. Tied for most birdies in the tournament with seven. Day 2 of the tournament on the back nine was the state qualifying side and I went -2. Still need to get more consistent and will work at that over the next week.
  • Camp/Event
  • Nine Hole Match #3 vs. Chapparal and Sandra Day O'Connor
  • 9/03/19 to 9/03/19
  • Tough putting day with multiple three putts, need to work on this. I went +5 but will not let that happen again.
  • Camp/Event
  • Arizona Fall Preview-Chez Reavie Division
  • 8/30/19 to 8/31/19
  • First 36 hole tournament for the season. The tees were placed at over 7000 yards. Had a very difficult time on the first nine of the tournament, nothing was going right even when I hit good shots would get bad bounces, finished that nine at +13. On hole 10 that first day I took control of my game and shot -1 35 on the back nine. Once again got off to a mediocre start the second day, +6 after six holes, but again regrouped and went +2 the rest of the way. For state qualifying in Arizona only one nine counts out of the 36 for your scoring average and that nine was the back nine on Saturday. I started on that side on hole 15 and was +4 heading to the front side. When I returned to the back nine for holes 10-14 I once again went -1 for a +3 on that side. My focus this week is to get off to better starts and stay consistent through the whole round.
  • Camp/Event
  • Second Nine-Hole Match: Gilbert, Basha and Skyline
  • 8/27/19 to 8/27/19
  • Shot even par 36 by birdying the ninth hole. Tied for medalist in the competition which helped lead the team to an overall win with a +12 score.
  • Camp/Event
  • First Nine Hole Match-Gilbert, Desert Vista @ Chandler
  • 8/22/19 to 8/22/19
  • Shot -1, 35, for the nine. Finished in second place overall for the event, leading score for the team. You can follow all of Gilbert High School events by getting the iWanamaker.com app/season ticket.
  • Camp/Event
  • Scottsdale City Championship
  • 8/17/19 to 8/18/19
  • Went -3 the last four holes the first day to bring score back to +4 with an eagle and a birdie. One bad hole the second day hurt the score, a triple after going into the water on 15, shot nine over. Both courses were par 71, went 75-80.
  • Camp/Event
  • Gilbert High School Tryouts
  • 8/13/19 to 8/15/19
  • Placed second in tryouts shooting even par and +2.
  • Camp/Event
  • Prescott City Championship
  • 7/09/19 to 7/10/19
  • Shot consistent +6 both days and finished top 20. Greens were much different than greens in Mesa. Second day shot -1 on the back nine.
  • Camp/Event
  • Mesa City Championship IMG World Qualifier
  • 6/27/19 to 6/28/19
  • Shot even par 72 on the first day. Struggled with hitting greens the second day, not a typical performance. Through this tournament my summer scoring average is 76.4. My goal is to get it under 75 with three tournaments left before school starts.
  • Camp/Event
  • Westin Summer Showcase
  • 6/17/19 to 6/18/19
  • Finished tied for second place shooting 79-77. Was tied for the lead after the first round.
  • Camp/Event
  • Antigua Milt Coggins
  • 6/04/19 to 6/06/19
  • After a rough first nine of the tournament I rebounded to go +2 the last 45 holes, including a -1 on the second nine the first day. Finished in 23rd place out of 41 participants that started the tournament.

  • Camp/Event
  • JGAA New Years Classic
  • 1/19/19 to 1/20/19
