Athletic Background: My mom first signed me up for swimming lessons when I was six years old. I continued those lessons over the summer until I was nine years old, when I began to swim competitively. When I turned 13, the very next meet I significantly improved my times, and that was when I realized, this might be the sport for me. Fast forward to when I was 16, I took a break from swimming when covid started up, and had a 6 month period where I was lazy, lacked motivation, and wasn’t very physically active. Reluctantly, I started swimming again and I felt not at all like my old self. I was getting a bit discouraged but I knew I needed to push through to recover the technique, strength, and endurance I had lost. After a few months of working I was back and arguably better than ever, because I now knew that if I set my mind to it, and push through the struggles, I could improve my times and achieve my goals. When I first joined Rio Salado Swim club in 2018, my coach told me “If you learn how to swim freestyle, you’ll go a 46.9” (100 Free). I made that my goal after coming back from my break. And on July 20th of 2021, I went a 46.99 in the 100 Free. I went to see my coach, and I said, “I went a 46.9, but I still have a lot to learn about how to swim freestyle.” I now know that improving isn‘t magic, you have to set a goal, and work towards it every single day. So that's how I live my life now, working hard every day since I know I can achieve my goals, I just have to believe.
Academic Background: Since the day I was born I have been fortunate enough to have a mother that always wishes the best for me and strives to push me to achieve my full potential. In my early childhood I always excelled in reading and math. In 4th grade I entered into the Kumon (Math & Reading) Program which elevated my understanding of math even further. Now I am in the final level of Kumon and I am an instructor to other students. In my high school years I have taken Honors classes such as: Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, English I and II, Spanish I and II, and Algebra II; and I have taken AP classes such as: Calculus BC, World History, US History, and Statistics. I have always strived to be an A student, with B's only sneaking through in English/Literature. In general I love a good challenge, especially if it pertains to Mathematics and/or Logic/Reasoning. That being said, I aspire to have a career that specializes in the use of math, geometry, and numbers in general. To name a few options, I would love a career in: architecture, engineering, economics, and applied mathematics.
