I would like the opportunity for you to meet me, to know a little bit about who I am and more importantly the potential I have. My name is Diego Ramirez and I am from Arizona and Class of 2022. I am a golf player looking for the opportunity to continue my education while fulfilling my passion for golf and I hope that you and your institution are willing to consider me for your team.
My transcript and my current golf game do not represent who I am but rather a point in time. I started playing golf late, I was sixteen years old when I started but I started late because I never knew what the game was. My father took me to the range one day and I can say with all honesty, I haven’t stop living, breathing or playing golf since that cool day in January. I went from playing at my local course, to getting golf lessons from the course pro and my current coach Kurt Brown, to making the decision that I was going to play for Mike Bender Academy in Lake Mary, Florida during my senior year of high school.
For ten months straight, I worked on my swing, my short game, I played in the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, and I made friends who share the same passion as I. One of my proudest moments was when Mike Bender me a video comparison of my swing against Abraham Ancer’s swing to show me the quality of my swing and to let me know how much he believed in me. I can get to the hole as fast or faster than any player on the course but I will admit, until I improve my putting, coaches as yourself will not take me seriously.
Don’t let that be the reason to not have faith on me. It wasn’t until I started playing golf that I took my education seriously and I attended a preparatory school that tried to prepare me for college and not just pass me. But I will continue to do what it takes to get an education, to work hard and to learn from academia and hopefully pursue my passion in art and digital media.
People say that I picked up the game so quickly because I am athletic. If that is the reason, then I would not disagree. I started playing soccer when I was three years old. What I learned from playing this sport competitively until I was fourteen years old is discipline. It’s where I learned to work hard, I learned that I had to work every day if I wanted to become better and I understood what it meant to fail. The reason I didn’t pursue soccer any further was because I never found that passion and knew that there was something else for me. Taking a break from soccer led me to drawing and it led me learn how to skateboard which I also picked up really quick. But I knew since I picked up my first club, that it was something that I enjoyed and something I couldn’t stop thinking about. I chose golf, I have chosen to pursue an education, I have chosen to work hard every day for the goals I have made.
I hope I’ve piqued your interest and I hope you can give me the opportunity to show you who I am in your team.
