My name is Max Engel and I would like to give you some insight into who I am. I started playing golf at age 10 when my 16 year old brother started playing. He became a scratch golfer in one year and is now playing D1 golf in California. I am now 15 years old and a junior at Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. I played on the Desert Mountain varsity team as a freshman and we took second place in the D1 state tournament. This past year, we won the overall D1 state tournament. Living in the golf paradise of Scottsdale, Arizona, playing for Desert Mountain and having a big brother who is a +3 handicap has given me the opportunity to be surrounded by talented golfers from whom I learn and am pushed every day. I am very driven and competitive and make time to play or practice every single day - whether playing a round, a tournament, hitting balls at the range, or chipping and putting at home where we built a practice facility in the back yard. I am passionate about golf and hope to build a life around the game. I am just starting to beat my brother and expect that to become a regular occurrence. While golf is my passion, I am also an excellent student and take my education very seriously. At Desert Mountain, I am enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. IB students take classes rated more challenging than Honors and AP classes. I have also been active in my community, volunteering time to support DrugFreeAZKids.org, the American Diabetes Association (my step-sister is Type I), and raising money for The First Tee Phoenix. Thank you for taking the time to start to get to know me.
