I believe everyone has a story that defines their character, as well as shapes their work ethic and determination to achieve success. While some athletes achieve their peak performance at a young age, other athletes grow and mature later in their teenage years. When I was 13 and played in my first AJGA tournament, I was only 5’4” and weighed 100lbs. There was one hole in the tournament nicknamed, “The Monster at Creekmoor.” The par-5 hole measured 650yds. I used a driver three times, a wedge, and a one putt to make par. I could have backed down from the challenge, but that moment showed me that I can achieve great things with determination and hard work.
I also believe it is important if I want to be successful college athlete, I have to be open to feedback. Earlier this summer, I was playing in a junior tournament and a major college golf coach said if I wanted to be a successful golf player, I needed to spend at least 3 hours per week putting to learn the speed of greens at each tournament. I took to heart his feedback and went to work on my putting. In my next tournament, I shot a 67 (-5) with nine birdies. I realize the game of golf is both physically and mentally challenging, so I train very hard every day both on the course (min. 4 hrs. per day), as well as the weight room (2 hrs. per day) and on my nutritional needs to maximize my performance. This focus on my health has produced very good results for me as I have added 30lbs. of muscle over the past 6 months, which has translated to lower scores in my tournaments.
In the classroom, I attend Providence Academy, a college-preparatory school and have a 3.4 GPA. I am actively involved in my school as a member of the honor society, and have previously served as an officer on student council. I have also lettered at my school in varsity golf, tennis, track and baseball.
I am a positive role model on my high school golf team, and bring a winning and supportive attitude to our team. Creating this culture on our team contributed to Providence Academy winning the 2020 HCAA 3A State Golf Title, as well as I am blessed to be the two-time HCAA 3A individual golf state champion.
I plan to attend college upon graduation from Providence where I will pursue a degree in business, as well as continue to play golf at the collegiate level. I am excited at the prospect of being part of a dynamic college golf team that wants to cheer, support, and challenge each other to work towards success as a team on the course and in the classroom. Upon graduation from college, I will pursue my goal of playing professional golf and work in the business industry. Just as I accepted the challenge when I was 13 of playing a 650yd. hole in an AJGA tournament and being creative to find success, I know through determination and staying focused on my goals, I will achieve the goals I have set before me now.
