Hi, my name is Matthew Shimizu. I started playing golf when I was 6 and I have always loved the game's challenges. My biggest dream has always been to play college golf and hopefully turn professional. The main people who have inspired me to pursue my dream of professional golf are my parents and my coach. Without them, I don't know where I would be. They have provided and sacrificed their time and money to help me move forward toward my dream and I can't be more grateful.
I began playing tournaments when I was 10. I started with The First Tee of Greater Sacramento and now I currently play on the JGANC and JTNC tours along with The First Tee. I like golf because you can play it for a long time and it’s very detailed in that you’re always analyzing your situation and thinking about what would be the best shot. I’m very good at analyzing different situations on the golf course when it comes to approach shots. When I was 16 I was a caddy for a friend at a tournament; it was a match play tournament. I helped him win the match by advising him on club selection and where he should have the ball land. I really enjoyed that experience of working together as a team. I look forward to being part of a college team and helping my teammates as well as learning from them.
I’m looking for a college with a good Business degree and the ability to play golf. I’m also looking for a college that has good academic support as well as good opportunities for job internships and recruiting.
