Hello, Coach! My name is Raymond Ponce. I live in San Francisco, California, and I attend Archbishop Riordan High School. I am a senior, a scholar, a mountain biker, a competitor, and, most passionately, a golfer. I am very much a late bloomer in the game of golf, but I have an extremely hard work ethic, a great track record of rapid improvement, and dedication and respect for the game. In the last three years, my handicap has dropped from a 20 to its current number of +0.3 with 8 shots being removed from the handicap in the last six months.
I started playing competitive golf in my freshman year of high school. I made the Varsity team my freshman year, where I earned the "Most Improved Player" award. Unfortunately, my sophomore season was cut short due to Covid, but my junior year, was very successful, where I helped lead my team to the 2021 Central Coast Section (CCS) Championship in Northern California for the first time in ten years. I am also captain of the varsity golf team for this upcoming season. In addition to high school varsity golf, I also play in weekend golf tournaments, maintain a 4.0 unweighted GPA and can be found daily practicing at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, where I earned a full golf membership.
