Clayton Whitton '20 Recruiting Profile

My name is Clayton Whitton and I appreciate you taking a moment to read about my love for golf.

Growing up in Evergreen, Colorado, I’ve competed in many team sports and individual sports beyond golf and enjoyed them all. I made the Evergreen High School Varsity Golf Team as a freshman and, during my sophomore year, I finished First-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-State. This season, I shot my career low of 68 at our second high school golf tournament to place first overall out of a field of 87 golfers competing in a combined 4A and 5A event.

As a result of my performance as a sophomore, I was invited to play in the Scotland Junior Golf Invitational. I am not sure whether it was the camaraderie of competing against 48 junior golfers from across the United States and Scotland, or the privilege to play golf where the sport originated, but that week had a profound impact on me and caused me to realize that golf was my true passion above all other sports. I came back to Colorado with a singular focus in mind and I have not let up since!

My solid work-ethic transfers from the golf course to the classroom, where my top priority is academics. I have taken a rigorous course load of Honors and Advanced Placement classes throughout high school. I take great pride in my education, and success is something I strive for everyday in everything I do.

I feel very strongly about giving back to the community and helping others. I cofounded an annual golf tournament in honor of a close friend of mine that passed away in the summer of 2017. For two years running, the tournament has raised funds for a new high school football stadium in his name. Additionally, I volunteered to be a camp counselor at Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp this past summer and enjoyed the opportunity to help my assigned camper experience the outdoors in the Rocky Mountains.

If given the opportunity to be a part of your team, I will work extremely hard to make the coaches, the team and my fellow classmates proud of my contributions on the golf course, in the classroom and within the community.
