Personal Statement

Hello and thank you for taking the time to view my profile. My name is Alexander James Burns and I am a third-year varsity golfer at Fort Collins High School in Fort Collins, Colorado. My goal is to attend a competitive college that caters to both academics and golf. I am extremely dedicated to golf and have been playing for over 10 years. I am constantly trying to improve my game and test the limits of what his possible in the sport of golf. I am quite interested in the science of the golf swing and I think it is beneficial to use scientific knowledge to tweak my golf swing in order to gain a competitive advantage over my opponent. I am also extremely invested in my learning and academic career, which is why I would like to find a school that has a respected and rigorous academic program, but also a competitive golf program. I have some qualities that many coaches would find ideal for their program, such as a high GPA with many AP and honors courses, as well as a CHSAA tournament scoring average of 79 and an average driving distance of 310 yards.  I went to the 2020 state tournament at Rolling Hills Country Club, as well as placing 9th overall at the 5A western regional with a plus three round of 75.  I was also able to drop 13 strokes off of my average score between sophomore and junior year, which is a good gauge of my commitment to practicing and improving. I really want to play golf in college, and finding a school that I can fit into academically and athletically would be my dream come true.  Below are some of my current stats:

Low round of 18: 72 (+1)

Low round of 9: 34 (-2)

Longest drive: 380

Eagles this season: 4

CHSAA scoring average ranking: 204/2000

Notable events:

FCCC Practice Round: 72 (+1)

5A western regional: 75 (+3)

Olde Course LM: 78 (+6)

Flatirons LM: 79 (+9)

Estes park JGAC: 79 (+7) (both days)

Walking Stick Tour: 79 (+7)

  • 2020 JGAC (Series)
  • I have participated in 9 JGAC events with three top three finishes. Towards the end of the golf season, I got my handicap down low enough to participate in the JGAC Tour events. I decided that it would be better to finish the 2020 season out participating as a Series member, and not make the jump to the Tour until the 2021 season so I could start fresh.
