Personal Statement

My name is Mason Dozer and I am currently a senior at Bonita Springs High School. I have been playing golf for 7 years and have always had a strong passion for the game. I am a member of many different junior tours in the state so I always have healthy competition that keeps challenging my abilities so I can grow as a player.

I go to the practice facilities 5-6 days a week and always play 1-2 times a week on the course. While working on the range, I am specific with drills and movements that I want to improve in my swing. I focus on my weaknesses to make myself a complete player and leave no aspect lacking in my game. Recently, I have been focusing on improving my proximity to the hole with my wedge game and speed control on lag putting. I also have been going to the gym to increase my strength and athleticism to improve my game as a whole and give me an edge over my competition. I always put in the work, practice, and time to improve my game and improve as a player.

Throughout my high school career, I have been a 4 time varsity team captain, advanced to the FHSAA regional tournament all 4 years, and I was the first person in my high school’s history to qualify, advance, and compete in a FHSAA State Championship event. This past summer, I won the Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association Boys 16-18 Championship Player of the Year award winning 3 events and having 4 runner-up performances.

Outside of golf, I love all things athletics like going to the gym and playing other sports. I have a passion for aviation and I am working on receiving my UAS licence and my private pilot's license. Also, I play the drum set and love listening to music. In a school, I am looking for a good balance in education and athletics where I can earn a degree in Sports/Business Management and be supported and a part of a great collegiate team.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • SFPGA Challenge Tour Event #7
  • 9/12/20 to 9/12/20
  • I shot a good 75 during round 1 in windy and wet conditions. My ball striking was great but I just did not make any putts. I gave myself so many good looks and opportunities and I was hitting great putts, they just wouldn't go in and I burned a lot of edges. Round 2 was cancelled due to weather which was disappointing because I felt like I would have a great day even if I got a few putts to drop.
  • Camp/Event
  • Florida Junior Tour Everglades Open
  • 8/08/20 to 8/09/20
  • This tournament was a very interesting challenge. Half way through my first round there was a weather delay and play was canceled until the next day. I played six holes that morning, waited another hour, and then teed off for my second round. During this round, we got through 15 holes before another weather delay when we waited 3 hours for the weather to clear and finished the tournament in the rain. I shot a 78 the first round and a 77 the second round. For me, this was the first time I have ever experienced something like this and it was a great learning experience for me moving forward. The course was wet and played 7,117 yds.
  • Camp/Event
  • SWFJGA Event #5
  • 8/05/20 to 8/05/20
  • Today I played some great golf and shot a 75. I made bogey on the last hole (par 5) because there was a hidden water hazard right of the green that I was unaware of. My tee shots were not great today as it was a very tight course but I did a great job scrambling for pars and taking advantage of the good drives and giving myself as many birdie opportunities as possible.
  • Camp/Event
  • SWFJGA Event #4
  • 8/03/20 to 8/03/20
  • Historically, this course has always gave me a little trouble as it has some hidden hazards and does not really fit my eye. I managed to score a 76 today despite making a double bogey on my first hole. I was able to regroup and refocus in order to get myself back in the tournament. My wedge game was great today and I gave myself many changes for birdie with many close approach shots. I took home 3rd in this tournament and this proved to me that no matter how you start, never lose focus and always keep going because it is never over until the final putt drops.
  • Camp/Event
  • SWFJGA Event #3
  • 7/14/20 to 7/14/20
  • This was a good tournament with a 75 in difficult and hot conditions. The greens were very firm and difficult to hold which made short game crucial. I managed to make 4 birdies on my day today but chipping cost me. I managed to win the event but I identified the problem with my chipping and now what I have to do to improve. Also, the heat index today was 108 and my endurance was put to the test.
  • Camp/Event
  • The SWFJGA Fire Cracker Open
  • 7/06/20 to 7/07/20
  • On the first day I did not have my best game and shot a 77. I struggled with my approach shots which is very unusual for me. I figured out that I was taking the club a little too far inside on the back swing. During round 2 I was +3 on my first six holes but I was able to refocus and collect myself and shoot 1 under on the next 12 holes to end up with a 74 and finish in second place overall for the tournament.
  • Camp/Event
  • The First Tee Jr Tour Event #2
  • 7/02/20 to 7/02/20
  • Today I had a good round of 74 at the Hideout Golf Club in Naples. I was able to take advantage of the forgiving front nine and make good pars on the difficult back nine. My approach shots and iron game was good today but the putter was cold. The greens were recently punched and sanded which made it difficult for my ball to stay on its intended line even though I was hitting good putts all day.
  • Camp/Event
  • SWFJGA Event #1
  • 6/29/20 to 6/29/20
  • I played well today with a good score of 76. This course was playing 6,669 yds and was a very difficult course. The greens were very slick with a great amounts of slope and quick speeds. The landing zones off of the tee were very tight but I was able to hit 11/14 fairways on this difficult driving course.
  • Camp/Event
  • The First Tee Jr Tour Event #1
  • 6/25/20 to 6/25/20
  • This course was playing 6,427 yds and was very tight off of the tee. I shot a solid score of 72 and won the tournament. My ball striking was great and I was able to scramble and make par when out of position.
  • Camp/Event
  • 1A Region 3 Golf Tournament (Regional Tournament)
  • 10/21/19 to 10/21/19
  • I played very well today with a great score of 76. My putting was great and ball striking was solid across the board. I had one bad hole but a great experience. Due to this performance, I qualified for the 1A state golf tournament. 6,314 yds
  • Camp/Event
  • LCAC's (Lee County Athletic Conference)
  • 9/27/19 to 9/27/19
  • This was an okay showing and score of 80 on a very tough course with very strong and gusting winds. I finished T-5 in the county and left a lot on the table. This was my first tournament with new irons.
  • Camp/Event
  • Joe Louis Barrow Jr Life Skills and Leadership Academy (hosted by the First Tee)
  • 7/24/19 to 7/30/19
  • This was a great experience of playing mountain golf. I learned a bunch of new skills in golf and leadership. At the end of the camp we had a tournament where I shot a 78. 6,309 yds
  • Camp/Event
  • SWFJGA Event #5
  • 7/15/19 to 7/15/19
  • This was a wild round with a few big numbers and a lot of birdies. This was a great learning lesson and most of my mistakes were mental and decision making. Made a lot of good swings but poor thoughts. 6,689 yds with a score of 79.
  • Camp/Event
  • SWFJGA Event #3
  • 6/26/19 to 6/26/19
  • The short game was great today with a few chip in's which led to a score of 78. The swing was not great and a little loose at the top. 6,517 yds
  • Camp/Event
  • The First Tee Jr Tour Event #2
  • 6/20/19 to 6/20/19
  • Overall, a solid round of 79. I made too many simple and avoidable mistakes but I learned a ton from this round. Putting was great and it was a really tough course. 6,350 (mixed tees for tournament)
  • Camp/Event
  • The First Tee Jr Tour Event #1
  • 6/13/19 to 6/13/19
  • Ball striking was great but just could not get the putter working today and shot a 78. This was my first time playing this course and I finished 3rd out of 12. 6,427 yds
  • Camp/Event
  • SWFJGA Event #1
  • 6/05/19 to 6/05/19
  • This was the first event of the summer and first tournament in a while. I played well shooting a 79 but the course had newly punched greens and modified tees due to maintenance. 6,654 yds
  • Camp/Event
  • 1A Regionals
  • 10/22/18 to 10/22/18
  • I shot a 78 (+6) on a par 72 course playing 6,404 yds. The greens were quick and there was quite a bit of wind. My game felt good and I got up and down for some good par saves! Overall, a good performance.
  • Camp/Event
  • 1A Golf District Tournament
  • 10/16/18 to 10/16/18
  • I shot an 83 in some tough conditions. The winning score was a 79 and I had some bad bogeys in my last few holes. I finished 4th overall and was the first individual qualifer for our regional tournament.
  • Camp/Event
  • High School Season
  • 8/23/18 to 10/23/18
  • During my sophomore season I played some good and constant golf. Some of my scores were 40, 40, 40, 38, 40, 38, 38 on 9 holes and had a 75, 79, and a 78 on 18.
  • Camp/Event
  • SWFJGA
  • 7/31/18 to 7/31/18
  • I shot a 78 in this 18 hole tournament. The total yardage was 6,671 and we played the Savannah and Sabal courses. Also, I finished first and won by one stroke.
  • Camp/Event
  • SFPGA Prep Tour Event #7
  • 7/14/18 to 7/14/18
  • I shot 79 with two birdies. I missed a few putts that lipped the hole and ball striking was great. Overall I played well and will head to the practice green.
