I am currently a Sophomore at the University of Florida's Developmental Research School, P.K. Yonge (PK). PK has allowed me to be both academically challenged, as well as athletically. I have played on the Varsity golf team since the 6th grade, improving my scoring average every year.
Outside of golf, I like to play basketball recreationally and love going to the gym and working out 5-6 days per week. PK also offers a variety of other sports which I love attending regularly to support my school and close friends. I also enjoy attending as many University of Florida sporting events as possible throughout the year; especially football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and golf. Every Saturday morning that I don't have a tournament, I get up early to volunteer with the Gator Junior Golf Association, ages 4-8. Though this can be a challenge working with kids this young, I enjoy helping give back the game that has built me. This has taught me the importance of giving back. I also volunteer every year as a Standard Bearer at THE PLAYERS Championship. Lastly, I am heavily involved in my youth group at Greenhouse Church and attend service almost every Wednesday night.
While golf is super important to me, academics must come first. As a Sophomore, I am taking my second AP class, World History. My Freshman year I took AP Human Geography; this class was a challenge and pushed me, but I understand the need to take difficult classes. Starting my junior year, I plan to dual enroll at Santa Fe College (SFC) and work towards obtaining my AA Degree at the same time I graduate high school. At PK, we have to complete a senior year research project in order to graduate. So even though all of my academic classes will be at SFC, I will be required to return to campus daily for the research project class. This will allow me to still get the high school experience and allow me to see and check in on my friends daily. I am the type of person that can get along with anyone I meet and I care about the well-being of everyone.
Going to SFC will prepare me academically for college allowing me to smoothly transition into a college or university for both academics and golf. As of now, my options for where I want to attend are wide open, but I am looking for a competitive program where coaches, teammates, and administrators become friends on and off the course. I have not firmly decided on a major as of now, but am interested in Kinesiology, Golf Course Design, or the Professional Golf Management Program.
