Golf is more than just a game for my family as it has been a bonding experience for all of us over the years. My family enjoys watching me compete and their support means the world to me. I’ve been hitting a golf ball since the time I could walk, starting with my first set of plastic clubs in the back yard. I played recreationally in our summer camps and VFJGA (Volusia/Flagler Junior Golf Association) but I really became serious going into my freshman year.
Since golf is an individual sport, I have come to rely on my own skills to get through each tournament while keeping in mind the team aspect with my fellow golf teammates. There’s no one else to count on to make a play or pick yourself up. I have learned to forget the bad shots and move on to the next hole to stay in the game. In previous years I was the smallest player on my high school team. My Freshman year I had to qualify, sometimes twice in one week for our weekly matches to keep my spot on the team. I didn’t have the longest drive, so I worked hard on my accuracy. My Sophomore and now Junior year, I was the #1 player on our team. This year I had a 9 in growth spurt, so the distance is getting even better. Our team has qualified for the State Championship all 3 years. I thoroughly enjoy working with my teammates to improve one another and I look forward to doing it at the collegiate level.
I also have a mind for mathematics and engineering, so I plan to earn an engineering degree. I’m looking for a program to help me grow as an individual and in turn I want to give back for my four years as a player and forever as a representative and ambassador of the university.
