Hello, my name is Ethan Quitman, I am currently 15 years old and I am a Sophomore in High School. I played my first full golf season in 2021 with only having played the game of golf for 2 years. I am a proud member of the First Tee of Atlanta, and I am committed to improving my skills in golf so that I can play at the next level and one day play on the PGA Tour. I am a former State Champion in Marital Arts, and currently hold a blue belt, but had to stop attending class due to Covid spreading. I do plan on continuing my journey to earn my black belt, because I was always taught that a black belt is a white belt that never gave up. So I try to apply that to golf, which is why I work so hard at improving my skillset and reaching my golf goals.
I follow a college practice schedule that requires my full attention to detail 6 days a week on specific areas of training each day. One day is only practicing my bunker shots and chipping from different distances, one day of putting, one day of short irons and short game, one day of long irons, and one day totally dedicated to my driver, and woods. I also try to focus on my course management to be able to make the best decisions while on the course. Usually in tournaments some kids focus on who they are paired up with, and that can get you off your game. I understand that I need to focus on beating the course, and that's one area I want to improve on, by learning more about the mental side of the game. That was something I learned during the Titleist pod cast I was allowed to participate in. I learned to not focus on the bad shots but to focus on the good shots I can make to develop more positive outcomes, especially during pressure situations.
I have to be honest, I'm not 100% sure of what I want to major in. I have several interest areas, but I'm sure I will make a decision when the time is right.
The things that make myself different from other candidates is that I try to follow what my Father teaches me about life. He is a Disabled Army Veteran, and he tells me about the things he has learned throughout life. These are some of the same things I learn in the First Tee program. Have respect for myself, respect for others, to respect my surroundings, and help others when you can, especially the younger ones because I need to be kind and be a good example for them. I always try to help other kids when I see them struggling with their swing. I love golf, and I want them to love golf also. But if they are not swinging the club properly then they give up because its no fun then.
My GPA is a 3.4 currently, and my Father always tells me there is no excuse to have bad grades, because we have the internet, and every available resource we need to be successful. I am currently reviewing my ACT/SAT books so that I can be prepared to take those test when I am a junior. I am open to learn, and try to live my life and play golf with integrity. My Father always tells me I will continue to grow and become a great man and great golfer. I will not disappoint him.
