In March of 2020, I found myself at home with a lot of time on my hands and a limited amount of things to do. My cousin introduced me to golf the summer before, and I enjoyed it, so with all that new time I had, I decided to try and learn to play golf. Most of the reason for choosing golf is that I love spending time outdoors, and it was a nice escape from all that was going on in the world at that time. I expected it to be a hobby, but I quickly became hooked on playing golf, and it became my passion. I have played almost every day since.
Going into my freshman year, I had to choose between playing school soccer (I had played since I was 2) or playing school golf. Of course, I chose golf. That season, I made three tournaments, the most of any freshman. I ended up winning Most Improved for the team. However, I knew there was still a lot of work to be done.
This past season (my sophomore season), I played the number 5 for my team with a scoring average of 96.3 and a new personal low of 86 at one of the tournaments. I had hoped to play even better than I did average-wise, but all this did was make me more motivated to work this summer. I plan to play 36 holes a day.
My parents are both educators, and they instilled a strong work ethic in me. Also, faith is very important to me, and I'm a leader in my church youth group. As I continue to my post-high school education, I want golf to be a big part of it, and this is why I’m trying to become the best player I can be.
Update: my current new lows are 73 on 18 and 36 on 9.
