My dad introduced me to golf when I was 10, but I didn't really start playing until I was 12. Since then, the majority of my summers and evenings have been spent at my local golf course practicing and playing. While my competitive career is fairly short right now, I believe that I have been able to make great strides in my ability and scoring in that time. I broke 90 for the first time in 2014 and broke 80 the following year. In 2016, my freshman year of high school, I was able to play on the varsity golf team all season and break par for the first time in a competitive golf match at our Regional qualifier. I finished second in that event and our team went on to finish third in one of the toughest Regionals in the state and move on to the State finals. While not in a tournament, I recently shot 68 on my home course of Otis Park, which has a par of 72 (70/129 - 6413 yards). I view this as a major milestone because I was able to prove to myself that I have the ability to put together a very solid round and break 70 (and just a little over two years after I started playing competitively). With a lot of hard work, and the help of both my high school and swing coach, I plan to continue improving and playing in many more junior tournaments to test my ability against tougher competition.
I believe my greatest strengths, and the things that would make me a great asset to a college golf program, are my attitude, leadership skills, and patience. First and foremost, I love golf and enjoy both practicing and playing. I love meeting new people to play with and compete against. I think a love of the game is really important to succeed. As a freshman on my Varsity golf team, I was not afraid to speak up and make suggestions for how the team could improve through more focused practice sessions. I did this while ensuring that I didn't overstep my bounds as the new kid on the team. I enjoy studying other successful golfers, and it is very clear to me that being able to weather the ups and downs of a round are essential to long term success. Because of that, I work on keeping my cool on the course and not letting a bad shot or a stretch of bad holes ruin my attitude.
Off the course I work hard to ensure my grades stay high so that my options for a college education aren't limited. I am currently the president of my class and participate in several academic clubs. In addition to playing golf, I have played football since I was 8 years old. I was able to earn my Varsity letter my freshman year and hope to earn another one this year. In my spare time, I enjoy CrossFit and finished 17/79 in the Central East division of Open qualifiers.
While my education and career after college are my main priorities, I hope to find a school that allows me to play at the highest competitive level possible and be a dynamic golfer and leader on and off the course.
