My name is Caleb Itzoe, and I am a class of 2024 golfer from Baltimore, Maryland. I am passionate about golf and have the goal to play at the Division I level. I attend Calvert Hall and have been a member of the varsity golf team since my freshman year. I began playing golf 4 years ago. I am coached by Jaime Gylan from Royal Manchester Golf Links and am a member at Hillendale Country Club.
Thinking about strengths and areas for improvement in my game, I would say that a strength is ironplay. We live on the 10th hole at our country club and I love spending time on the range working the ball and hitting different yardages. During the summer of 2022, I underperformed what I believe is my level of skill, and didn’t start to shoot the numbers I was capable of until the end of the summer/beginning of the fall.
Over the fall and winter I have put in a lot of work both on the course and in the gym, getting my weight to 175 lbs at 6’2. My father played Division 1 Baseball at Wake Forest and in the minor leagues for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, so I know the amount of work and dedication needed to play at a collegiate level.
My hard work has started to pay off as I earned a T2 at the 2023 HJGT Charleston Kickoff at the Harbor Course at Wild Dunes Resort in my first competitive round of the year. This included a 74 on Day 2 in very windy conditions which was the low round of the day for the field. I believe my game has progressed to the point that I have the ability to play in college.
Some goals for the 2023 season include winning our varsity conference championship, winning our individual conference championship, qualifying for the Maryland Amateur and Maryland Open, winning the Maryland Junior Amateur, qualifying for the U.S. Junior Amateur, and qualifying and playing well in several AJGA HJGT events.
In the classroom, I am part of the Honors Program at my school and have excelled in primarily honors and AP classes. I am involved in many extracurricular activities and look forward to attending a school that provides a rigorous academic program.
I am extremely excited about the prospect of playing college golf and seeing what I can accomplish at the next level. I feel like my game is in a very good place and I am rapdily improving. My best golf is ahead of me and I expect to have a strong spring and summer and put myself in a position to play at a Division I golf program. If you think that I might be a good fit for your program, please follow me on Instagram (@calebitzoe) and send me information about your school and golf program. I'd love to connect with you.
