Personal Statement

My goal for several years after my high school graduation is to play at the college level. My dream is to play at the college level and win a national championship. I have worked for many years with my swing coach Mike Boogaard to devise a plan to continuously improve my game and take it to the next level, with this in mind I work throughout the season to improve each and every aspect of my game at my local course The Meadows at GVSU.

My practice sessions involve putting, drills, hitting outside and in my garage, coaching sessions, and trips to the outdoor range and simulators to see ball flight after my practice. I am a very hard worker and will do what I have to do to reach my goals and be the best teammate I can.

My freshman year at Allendale High School, I played the one spot and finished the season third in the conference. At the Spring Lake Invitational, I finished second shooting a 76.

At my final event on the Callaway Meijer Junior Golf Tour for the season I tied for first at Macatawa Golf Club, shooting the low round of 74 on the second day.

  • I shot 82 on the first day and 74 on the second day. The first day I got off to a horrible start where I was pulling my drives off the tee on the front and had the worst nine of the year and I persevered through and shot even par on the back. The second day I got off to a way better start being one under through seven holes and had a bad double and a sloppy putt to finish the front nine at two over. I then went on to shoot even par again on the back. I had 5 total birdies for the tournament with many of missed short ones. I ended up finishing the tournament with 63 total putts having 32 on the first day and 31 on the second day. I hit 22/36 greens and a few of them that I missed led to bogeys. Overall, not my best stuff but I was happy to see myself stick in there and come back with a great round to qualify for the Notah Begay III regional.

  • I shot 75-79 for a two day total of 154. The first day on the east course I really struggled with some tee shots leaving them out to the right caused by and open clubface that I’ve been fighting. I did have my iron game which helped me hit some decent iron shots and set me up with some birdie looks but couldn’t convert on a lot of them. My lines were great I just had a little to much pace on the putts causing them to lip out a lot. On the second day I really struggled off the tee again early with a two way miss as I tried to correct the push that I was hitting and hit some pull draws and some baby cuts. I started to really find my iron game around hole 9. Thankfully my short game has been at my peak level this past month letting me have some up and down pars late in the front 9. Right around hole 11 I found my tee game and hit some fantastic tee balls and getting birdies on both par 5’s on the back 9 and finish the back even par. Overall I am very proud of the way I battled back on the 2nd nine of day two after being +7 through 9 holes. I will continue to work on fixing the tee game so I can get off the tee more consistently.

  • I shot 79 and played ok. I hit some great tee shots and some decent short iron shots. I ended up hitting some really good wedge shots late in the round for three birdies in a row however some of the greens that I missed I could not convert on the up and downs. My chips were a little off. My distance control was a off having some chips come up very short or even very long. My swing changes are finally starting to set in as I have been working on shallowing out my backswing as it got a little steep before. Overall I’m starting to hit the ball much better I just need to get the short game a little better.

  • I shot 73 and Hit the ball great! The tee balls were great and the irons were spectacular. I only missed a few greens but ended up struggling with my lag putts. I was hitting some short and long and missing the comeback putts. I hit 13/18 greens but ended with 33 putts. Pretty solid day overall.
  • Camp/Event
  • Golf Week at Miami University
  • 6/10/23 to 6/11/23
  • I shot 88-89 and played horrible. I really struggled with the tee ball this weekend and had a two way miss of some big push shots and some hooks. Another thing I struggled with was my chipping. I just could not get a feel for the run out on the chip shots which led to me not getting up and down very much.
  • Camp/Event
  • Meadows at GVSU
  • 5/13/23 to 5/14/23
  • I shot 80-78 in my first event of the year and placed 2nd. I played pretty well, but I struggled with my chipping. Overall, I hit my driver great and hit some great putts just couldn’t get my chips close.
