Personal Statement

  • Hello, I am Connor Shooks, a sophomore at Lake Michigan Catholic High School. I am a highly involved and dedicated athlete and student that strives and is hardworking for success in the classroom and on the golf course.

  •  I became in love with the game of golf four years ago when I decided to become involved in The First Tee. I had such a natural love for the game and was drawn to it because of its beauty and the lifelong lessons I knew it could help me learn. From the first day that I held a club, I knew that I could have great success with this sport and truly enjoy it. Since that moment, golf has become an important part of life and I have made great progress to get to the level that I am today.

Through my experiences with golf in competition and volunteering to help the next generation of golfers, I have learned about myself that my hard work pays off and that I have great enthusiasm and that I have many values that the game of golf has brought into my life. Some important values that I learned I have through golf are honesty towards myself and others, integrity with holding myself accountable, respect towards others and respect for them and myself, and perseverance in the sense that I can achieve whatever I push myself to on the course and in life.

I am very involved in my community and dedicate the most time I can to give back to those who have helped me on my journey in life. I am a frequent helper at assisted living homes and love to listen and spend time with the elderly and learn valuable life lessons. I also help out with instructing young golfers at my local First Tee Chapter. I believe that these experiences have made me a well-rounded person.

One unique skill that I think is very fruitful in my life is my gift for public speaking. I have seen this skill to be very important in all aspects of my life. Public speaking skills have allowed me to have great communication with people and also have provided me many academic opportunities. With this skill, I am never afraid to step forward and help out or help share and convey ideas, which I believe makes me a great teammate and student

  • I have become the great person that I am today thanks to many great role models in my life. One of my most important role models in life has been my mother that has shown and taught me that I can achieve greatness and always stay determined in the light of challenges.  She has also shown me how to care for others. Because of the lessons, I have learned from her, I have had more success in life and in golf as well with What details of your life have influenced who you are? Because of my mother and many other role models in my life, I am able to become the best person I can be and hopefully become a role model for someone else.

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
