My name is Matthew Schaefer and I am currently attending Northeast Community College in Norfolk, NE with the plans to transfer to a 4-year College in the Fall of 2019 to continue my college education and to play golf. The biggest dream and goal of mine is to play college golf at a competitive level while achieving my college education.
I graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in 2018 and maintained a 3.70 GPA while taking Advanced Courses. I was a three sport athlete in high school playing golf, basketball and football. During my Senior Year in high school I finished first as an individual in all eleven GOLF Meets and had an average score of 70 per 18 holes in tournament play. I was MVP all 4 years in High School. I first started golfing when I was a Freshman in High School and absolutely fell in love with the game and have since worked very hard to improve every aspect of my golf game by spending endless hours on the golf course.
I have been a member and competitor in the AJGA, NJGT Golf Tour, PGA Junior Series, NE Fall Junior Series, played in the US Junior Amateur Qualifier, NE Amateur and Junior Pro Am. These tournaments have given me experience in playing different courses under diverse conditions and circumstances which has helped me improve and shape my game. This summer I shot a 63 to tie the 18-hole course record that stood for 20 years at the Hartington, NE Golf Course. I was an active member of the AJGA Leadership Links program. As part of my fundraising project for Leadership Links I raised over $7,200.00 for the "The Nicklaus Children's Healthcare Foundation" and finished as one of the Top 10 Fundraisers in the nation.
I believe I have what it takes both mentally and physically to compete at the next level and feel that I would be a very good asset to any college golf team because of my hard work, dedication, teamwork and passion for the game. The biggest dream and goal of mine is to play college golf at a competitive level while achieving my college education. I am a very good role model and leader for others in our community being involved in various church, school and community activities. I love to mentor younger kids and volunteered at the Junior Golf Program at our local golf course the past 2 summers to help younger kids get started in the game of golf and share my passion for the game.
