Personal Statement

Hello, my name is MJ Shalhoob and I am currently a Junior (Class of 2021) attending high school at VJ and Angela Skutt Catholic High School in Omaha, Nebraska. I have played golf for all of my life, and I decided to take my game to the next level and to concentrate on getting better and competing in Nebraska Junior Golf Tour (NJGT) tournaments in the summer of 2016. I am committed to improving my game, and I am always finding new techniques and opportunities to do so. This past summer, I played and practiced often, and competed in several NJGT tournaments across the state; of the 9 tournaments I competed in, I had one win and two top 5 finishes. I was also invited to the NJGT 18 Hole Tour Championship at the end of the summer season.

This winter has not provided me much opportunity to golf in Nebraska, as there was snow on the ground from October until March. Therefore, I have spent a lot of time practicing on simulators and putting indoors. Even without being able to practice outdoors, I feel like I have been able to improve my game a lot this winter, and can continue to get better as the year goes on.

This upcoming summer I will be working part time at a local country club. I will be greeting members and taking care of their equipment, as well as performing various tasks around the club house and driving range. I plan to continue with my strong work ethic as I finish this school year and begin work in the summer. I believe that hard work is necessary to be successful in both school and in golf. It is my goal to go to the best college I can get into academically, and would like to study business and finance.

I would like to continue golfing at the next level, as it would allow me to develop new relationships, and give me new experiences which could benefit me in my future career. I appreciate you taking the time to read my statement, and I look forward to the possibility of talking to you in the future. Thank you!

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
