My summer golf season has just ended. I sure traveled a lot this year; went to Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho and Oregon. The AJGA competition was excellent as was the field at Junior Worlds. What I took away from all of these tournaments was, I can play with the big boys! I shot the tournament low 66 and led the AJGA in Colorado after the first day. I ended the tournament in a tie for 7th place. I also played an AJGA event in Sunriver, Oregon and ended up in a tie for 32nd place (108 golfers in the field). As a matter of fact, I shot under par in 4 out of the 6 AJGA rounds I played in August. Locally, I won the Butch Harmon Tournament of Champs. This is the highest level of local competition and I shot 13 under par in the 5 rounds of competition ending with a 3 under round on UNLV's home course at Southern Highlands.
My coach, Vic Wilk, has been working with me this whole summer on swing changes. I finally became comfortable with them in the past 30 days or so. During that time I've posted 12 tournament rounds under par. These amazing results have pushed my handicap to and all-time low for me at a +3.0! My overall goal in golf has always been to continue to improve each and every year and the new swing changes have put me on another level. Even though I got off to a slow start this summer, I have to say that it ended up being my best summer of competitive golf ever!
For the fall I'll be playing varsity tennis for my high school. I plan on ramping up my golf game again this winter to prepare for my Junior year of high school golf. I've also got my sights set on my third consecutive individual Regional Championship and on improving my 3rd place finish in state to a 1st place state championship.
I believe that my new swing changes and my always dependable putting will help me achieve all of my dreams in golf. With the start of my Junior year of high school I plan on continuing to improve my overall GPA from my current 3.44. I have begun to prepare for my SAT's as well and hope to be ready to hit the ground running at a top college in two short years.
