My name is Brad Cole and I am currently a junior at Carlsbad High School. I would love to continue my dream and play college golf.
We are off to a solid start for our high school season. We have played three events and I have secured a "leg" at each event to be fully qualified for the NM 6A high school tournament that will take place in Albuquerque, NM at the Canyon Club on May 9 & 10th. I am looking forward to the other high school events coming up. Every tournament I play in takes me one step closer to understanding course management and learning to play competitive golf.
During my sophmore high school golf season I was the only sophmore to make the varsity team. Throughout the season I played pretty solid. I qualified for 5 of the required 3 individual "legs" to make it to the NM state tournament. A leg is the course rating +7 strokes. I also accomplished having the team's best scoring average. I am pleased to say that I finished 2nd place at our high school district tournament after a 5 hole playoff. The highlight of my season came at the NM 6A State Tournament in Farmington, NM at Pinon Hills Golf Course. It was a two day event. I shot 81, 80 to finish tie for 5th place. Not only am I playing in high school tournaments but I am also traveling to Sun Country, Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Tour and Texas Junior Golf Tour events. Living in Carlsbad creates a challenge to play many junior events. I play on several tours, depending on who has a tournament within driving distance.
I think I could play at the college level because I am very committed to golf and improving my game. I practice every day and work very hard. My work ethic is great, I am not a lazy person. I am currently under the instruction of Jesse Blackwelder from Lubbock, Tx and have begun seeing John Sinclair for my putting. I have had 4 lessons with him and am seeing great improvement. I am someone eager to improve, therefore I am coachable.
I have always been a multi-sport athlete, deciding my freshman year to focus only on golf. By making this decision it has allowed me the extra time to give to the game.
Off the course you will never have to worry about the decisions I make. Character is not a concern. My GPA has and will continue to be high. Ranging from a 3.7-4.0. I will continue to focus on the game of golf as well as my grades throughout high school. I am looking forward to playing a lot of golf this summer and entering as many events as I can get to.
