Personal Statement

I pride myself on a strong work ethic. I would bring my drive and determination to any college golf program. I want to become the best golfer I can be and I know what it takes to get there. I play golf upwards of 6 hours a day and I meticulously study each course I play in order to give myself the best chance to shoot a low score. When I was a freshman I struggled to break 80. I broke 70 for the first time in the spring of my sophomore year. Shortly after, I won a tournament over Ben Wong, the number one junior golfer in the nation at the time. I worked on my game all summer and have started my junior season strong. I look forward to continuing my success as I strive to compete in college at the highest level and bring my competitiveness and work ethic to a program where I can work with people who have similar traits.

  • I played with great patience and composure for our first high school tournament of the season. I shot 75 (+3) the first round, hitting 11 fairways and 12 greens. I had one birdie on the front, making a good up and down on the drivable par 4 fourth. I turned at +2 and started the back nine with some good iron shots, failing to capitalize on some birdie opportunities. I finally got one to drop on number 13, hitting my 102-yard approach shot to 5 feet. I played the next few holes sloppily and once I started to feel the round slipping away, I took a moment to regain my composure and played the final 2 holes -1, making a 15-foot par putt on 17 and an 18-foot birdie putt on 18. I felt like even though I wasn't playing the best during the first round, I was able to scrape together a decent score through my putting. In the final round, I played with the 1 seeds. Everyone in my group had shot par or better the previous day and I was excited to compete with some of the best players in the field. I started the day off rough. I four-putted from 45 feet on the first hole and missed a 5-foot birdie putt on number two. Walking to the number 3 tee, I told myself to stay patient because the putts were going to start falling as long as I gave myself enough opportunities. I made a 7-foot par putt on 3 and followed that up by draining a 33-foot birdie putt on 4. I parred 5 and 6 and made a 5 footer on 7 for birdie. Walking off of 7 I felt like I had regained my momentum and was proud of myself for fighting back to even after a rough start. I made a good par on 8 and sunk a 20 footer on 9, turning at -1. I told myself to keep giving myself opportunities and not to get ahead of myself. I finished strong on the back, with birdies on 12 and 16 and no bogies, firing a -3 69. I ended up in a tie for 3rd for the tournament and my final round score ended up being the 3rd lowest round in school history. I was really proud of my resilience that weekend and am looking forward to my next few tournaments as I try to start competing on the AJGA level.

  • TJGT Tour Championship Invitational
  • 2/09/19 to 2/10/19
  • My first tournament after thumb surgery in December, I wanted to get a gauge on where my game was after spending 4 weeks exclusively working on my short game. I shot 87 in the first round. My course management was very rusty and I had way too many big numbers. That night I talked to my coach and he reminded me to stop trying to make birdies and focus on hitting greens. The second round was much better and I shot 73 with a -1 back nine. I was proud of my bounce back and was happy to know that I could still play at a high level.
  • Camp/Event
  • TJGT Traditions Fall Invitational
  • 12/01/18 to 12/02/18
  • I played poorly the first day, shooting an 80. I gained some momentum in the last few holes and opened my second round with a -4 front nine. I faltered on the back, shooting a 41. I finished with a 73 and tied for 9th in my division. I learned a lot from my second round. I'm glad to know that I am capable of going low and learned to stay patient even when I have a good round going.
