Personal Statement

My goal in college is to push myself to be the best student-athlete I can be and push my team to play the best that we can. That means pushing ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and for some, spiritually. I have been a part of team sports my whole life and played select baseball, club basketball, and club football, but the challenges that golf brought appealed to me more.  I started my golf career just before my freshman year of high school and enjoyed it so much that I chose to pursue it as my top priority over my other team sports. I appreciate the mental aspect of the game because it helps me develop patience, perseverance, and mental fortitude. I have been in the top 20% of my class or better all throughout my 4 years of high school. I know what it takes to compete for myself, but also compete within the team so that we can overcome our opponents as a whole.

  • I started out my day great going -2 through 8 but wasn’t hitting fairways at all that day like I needed to. I struggled off the tee and put myself in tough positions that were hard to get out of. After 13 holes I was at +3. I then birdied the next 2 holes to bring it back to +1 but finished out going bogey, bogey, birdie to shoot 74. The course was easy and I should’ve shot under par. Some good things about this tourney was how well I was hitting my wedge shots. If I was 130 yards and in then I would stick it within 10-15 feet every time. What I struggled with was me tee shots and chipping. I battled hard but didn’t like the result at all and am going to work on what needs to be done.

  • Day one was a beautiful day that warmed up as the day went on, but the wind did pick up a bit. I started off strong going even through 9 holes. I stayed at even until my second to last hole when a bad approach shot and bad chip ended in a double. I finished my 18th hole with a birdie to shoot 73. I was just 1 stroke back of the leader. Day 2 was a lot worse conditions. It was in the thirties with a light breeze and slight mist. I played really well hitting 16 greens and putting a little better than the first day. However my last hole I chunked my approach shot to the false front on the green and ended up making a last bogey to shoot 73 again. My 2 day total of 146 was good enough to win the tournament and break a school record for my high school. Overall I am happy with my performance but not satisfied. I could’ve putted a lot better and hit more fairways than I did. However a win is a win and I just need to keep working to take my game to the next level.
  • Camp/Event
  • NTPGA Tournament
  • 2/09/19 to 2/09/19
  • Shot 76 and won by 3 strokes. It was about 35 degrees with a wind chill of below 30 and I was just trying to stay warm. But I started just making a lot of pars and ended up with a good round and a victory.
  • Camp/Event
  • 1st senior tournament
  • 10/01/18 to 10/01/18
  • I had played this golf course before so I knew how to play it but was going through some swing changes so just needed to key in on a few swing thoughts to play my best. This was a 27 hole event with the first 18 being stroke play and the second 9 being match play. I shot 78 on the first 18 and made it in the top tier so I got to play a good golfer. On the second 9 my opponent and I were back and forth the whole way until I was 1up going into the last hole. I had about a 6 foot par putt to win the match and made it. Overall, I was happy with my performance but knew I could've done better and that just gave me motivation to keep working.
  • Camp/Event
  • Regional Golf Tournament
  • 4/23/18 to 4/24/18
  • This was my first time advancing to a regional tournament and to my knowledge no other male golfer at my school had made it that far. I went into day 1 without a driver because it had broke in my practice round the day before, but I was still confident about playing. I ended up shooting 76 and was in 10th place after day 1. I was very happy with this and knew I had a shot to make it to state. Day 2 I didn't hit the ball as good and ended up shooting 79. This kept me in 10th place and I missed the state tournament by 4 strokes. Overall I was happy with my performance but also hungry for more success in my senior year.
  • Camp/Event
  • District Tournament
  • 4/02/18 to 4/03/18
  • Day 1 I shot 82 and was disappointed knowing that I needed to lead my team and an 82 wouldn't cut it. I showed up day 2 and shot 75 and took 3rd place overall and advanced to the regional tournament in Lubbock.
