Personal Statement

I have been playing golf for over 10 years and last year I played in over 30 Tournaments in the South Texas PGA Prestige Tour.  My father introduced me to the game as a kid and I've never looked backed.  I am currently a junior in High School and want to pursue my goal of playing college golf at a strong athletic and academic school. I am a leader on and off the course and have a great work ethic. I am determined to reach this goal no matter the circumstances and adversity I come across. Golf has helped me grow as a person and provided me with structure and leadership which I could use on a college team.

COVID cancelled a state run my freshmen year, but pushed me to be a stronger and better competitor. My team and I were able to win district, regionals and come 2nd in state my Sophomore year. I am grateful for the opportunities golf has given me and would like to continue to do what I love.

This put me 9th out of 52 players. I was not satisfied with my performance, but after a rough start I stayed with the process and pre-shot routines and i know what I need to do to continue to improve.

  • I was informed that I got accepted on Thursday night, giving me one day to prepare and recovering from Strep A during the week. I arrived to the course at 6:45 on Saturday for my tee time at 7:45 a.m. (the first group off). It was 42 degrees and blowing 30 mph plus. I played 9 holes and they called the tournament for the first day. The STPGA decided to cancel the first day and make it a one day tournament. I teed off at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday with the temperature in the low 40s and the winds of 10 mph. I shot 77, 6 over par shooting 39, 38. I hit 9 fairways, 10 greens, and had 31 putts. I did not have a single 3 putt and was happy with my driving. I'm excited to improve in the upcoming season.

  • I arrived at the Bird on 1/06/22 at night which is the ASU facility and was transported to the hotel. We had an 8am time to leave the hotel and head to the facility. We started off with putting drills and an assortment of hitting drills. We had lunch then played the Loop 4.0 to end the day off golf wise. We had a conversation about recruitment and the financial side of college golf. Next day we left the hotel at 8am then went to the bird. We had some speed drills and more putting drills and games then warmed up for Grayhawk Golf Course. We had lunch at Grayhawk before we teed off. They host the NCAA Finals at Grayhawk and the course was set up tough. It was a challenge and lots of fun since I played from the tips. The final day we left the hotel at 8am and went to the Bird. We were allowed to do any drill and game that we learned those 2 days and incorporate it into our practice. We played the loop a few times because we were having one final tournament/challenge. The parents were invited to watch us play in the tournament. I was tied for the lead after regulation out of 15 campers. We had a playoff and I came out on top to end off the camp. I am forever grateful to be able to have this experience and thankful for Coach Thurmond, Coach Armen, and Coach Clegg for hosting an amazing and memorable camp.
