Growing up on my family's farm made me love the outdoors. From fishing to riding my dirt bike to swimming in the pond with my cousins and exploring the creek, I learned to live life. I also learned to work and lend a helping hand -- driving a tractor, helping our neighbor sort cows or mowing for my Pa. Two things I learned: 1. Don't waste daylight. 2. Be respectful of the land and of people. I started playing golf hitting balls in the pasture with my dad. I guess you could say I had my own unique "country club." I have played team sports (baseball, basketball and football) my entire life, and even though golf seems like an individual sport, I think my team sports experience helps me encourage my golfing teammates to work harder, push one another to be better and ultimately help the team as a whole. My sophomore year, I had a disastrous first round at Regionals, but through the camaraderie of my team, I shot one of my best rounds ever the next day. I think two of my best characteristics are determination and confidence. I have never been intimidated to try new things, face a challenge, be in the spotlight or introduce myself and make an acquaintance. This confidence not only helps me handle pressure in a game, but it will also help me in my career to not be afraid to reach out to a potential employer or business partner and communicate what I can offer. My motto is, "if you're not living on the edge; you're just taking up space." In other words, go for it. If I fail, I will try again, but I won't ever just stand still.
