Growing up I played lacrosse, basketball and a lot of tennis. It wasn't until 8th grade that I picked up a set of sticks. Last spring, I began playing in Utah Junior Golf Association tournaments, my first competitive individual season as I had been playing in regional/national tennis tournaments up to this point. Although I struggled with my consistency, my scores are quickly improving and I would like to play golf in college.
My experience on the Park City High School golf team has had a huge impact on me. After attending a small private school for two years (8th-9th grade), I decided that I wanted to transfer to my home high school. Although I enjoyed my time at the private school, I decided that a transfer was necessary to pursue my academic and athletic desires. The beginning of my sophomore year was a wake-up call on the golf course. From the moment I arrived at tryouts at 6:30 am, I realized that there was something different. Perhaps it was the 10 straight state titles that the team had won or maybe the numerous future collegiate golfers who I got to play with. I believe that it was the culture around the team which captured my love for the game. Over the entire season, I was embraced by upperclassmen. At the end of the season, I found myself on the wrong side of a playoff for the final spot on the state team. Fortunately, I was still able to compete after qualifying individually. We went on to win our 11th straight state title, and, after the celebration had died down, I realized I had found a new passion.
As I look forward, I would like to continue to improve my game and play collegiate golf. I believe that my exemplary character and attitude would help elevate those around me to not just help a team for four years, but leave a legacy for those to come.
