John (Jack) Tomashot '12 Recruiting Profile

I am a high school Junior (2012 grad) and have played golf since I was four. I began playing competitive golf through the US Kids program both locally and nationally. As a junior golfer, I played competitive golf in the Vermont Golf Association (VGA) and Vermont PGA programs often winning and usually placing high in the field. I've been invited by the VGA to play in the New England Junior Championships for the past two years representing the best youth talent from Vermont. I started on the varsity team as a freshman and became captain and the number one golfer as a sophomore. My scoring avg for the 2010 season placed me 5th among all Vermont High school golfers. I was invited to the New England High School Golf Championship's in New Hampshire and finished 5th. This past summer I qualified for the Vermont Amateur (medaled in the qualifying round with a 71) and went on to a 29th place finish on a course that I had never played before. As a Junior, I led my state with a 75.1 scoring average. At the division one championship, my junior year, I captured individual medalist honors. I also led my team to our first state title in 27 years. I very much would like an opportunity to play competitive golf at the college level while obtaining an education that will prepare me for a career in the economics or medical fields (economics, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, physician assistant, M.D.). I am an academically focused student interested in colleges in the northeast and southeast. I'm interested in both large and small schools that have a great college atmosphere with an active student body. My collegiate golf ambition is to play in the National Tournament (D1, D2 or D3) and to one day play in the US Open.
