My golf career started my freshman year of high school and right away I came in and made an impact on the program, playing in the number two spot all year. My sophomore and junior years, I played in the number one sport. During that time, golf was my secondary sport, as I also played year round travel ice hockey, which demanded a great deal of my time and effort. As a result, I was only able to focus on golf during the summer months. Despite being primarily focused on hockey, during my sophomore year my golf game continued to improve and I qualified for the Virginia State High School Tournament at the age of 15.
I have realized that I want to play golf at the highest level, so I made the decision this Spring to focus all of my time and attention on golf . It was a hard decision for me, as I have loved the game of ice hockey for so long. However, I now know that it would be very difficult to simultaneously excel at two sports that both demand so much time and effort and golf has become my primary athletic passion over and above ice hockey. In addition, hockey was beating my body up and impacting my golf game. The injuries I suffered caused me to miss our state regionals and miss my opportunity to compete at our state tournament during my junior year, though I am now fully recovered. However, missing states proved to be a driving force that fueled a fire in me to become a better golfer and to move away from my hockey career. I am now determined to put all my efforts into becoming the best golfer to ever come out of Yorktown High School and to prove that I can compete at the collegiate level.
I have excellent academics, a great work ethic, a strong desire to learn and improve and believe I would be an asset to any collegiate golf program.
