I first became interested in volleyball when my mom told me about a CNU camp that was coming up in the summer when I was eight years old. At the time I was playing softball, but I wasn’t having fun like everyone else. The first day of the CNU camp was when I knew that volleyball was the sport for me. The following season I joined my first club team and the rest is history. While playing volleyball I have learned many life lessons that I could never have learned otherwise. With volleyball being such a team based sport, I have learned that everyone must play their own role and communicate with one another in order to succeed.
In high school, I plan to graduate with honors and then head off to college to earn my degree. My goal in the long run is to become an Orthopedic Surgeon. I’ve always been able to balance school work with playing volleyball year round, but I know that education is more important considering that I plan on becoming a surgeon in the future. My favorite subjects in school have always been science and math because there is always a new challenge to solve.
Making an impact on the community has always been important to me. In third grade, I received the county wide citizenship award for my actions in our community such as helping out in the local soup kitchen, being apart of the SCA, and making sure the kids in our school knew about what was going on politically because of the presidential election that year.
Leadership has always been a defining quality of mine. Any time that I am involved in a group, I usually take the lead in making sure everything that needs to be done, gets done. In volleyball this is helpful because I always make sure that everyone keeps their head up even if they’re having a bad game. This can prove to be challenging sometimes but I know that someone needs to help them stay in the game. Being a captain for my school team the past three years has been an honor.
Whenever I’m not in school or at an event for volleyball, you can find me in the water or on the slopes. I very much adore being in the ocean because it holds so much mystery. I also enjoy tubing, wake surfing, and wake boarding on the water. Along with the ocean, the mountains are very significant to me as well. Every year my family and I go on an annual ski trip that I’m thankful to be able to do with the people closest to me.
