Hello, my name is Tyler Tusing. I am a 17 year old avid golfer looking to pursue my competitive golfing career into my college experience. I have been golfing ever since I could walk. I always strive to practice and better myself in the sport. I go to high school at Catholic Memorial in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I work at Western Lakes Golf Club in the summer, where I teach Junior Lessons full time in summer and I help in Outside Service when I am not teaching. I work at Sierra in the winter, where I am up front at cashier.
I started off my competitive golfing career at the age of 11, at Western Lakes Golf Club, where I played for their Junior PGA Team. I was one of the 2 kids selected to represent the course at an all-star tournament, where I played with all-stars from my region against other all-star regions. At Catholic Memorial, I made Varsity freshman year and was the 5 spot. I got 6th place in the County Freshman Tournament and my score counted towards our team Sectionals score. Sophomore year, I was looking to be in the top 3 on the Varsity team, but that season unfortunately got cancelled due to COVID. Going in to my junior season, I am looking to be the 1 or the 2 on Varsity. I have played in numerous Wisconsin Junior PGA Tour Events. I have tied for first in one tournament shooting a 76. I also have won smaller tournaments numerous times shooting 76, 78, 81, and 83. My career lowest score is a 74 (+2) on 18 holes, and a 36 (E) on 9 holes at Western Lakes Golf Club. I have a private coach (Rob Elliott) where I take lessons year round. In winter I go to a simulator so I can keep practicing and improving my game.
On the academic side of things, I have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and I scored a 1080 on my PSAT. I have yet to take my ACT, so I will be taking that in February. I have shown great improvement this past Semester as a Junior. My motivation got much greater because realized that my major goal is to go to a good college and play golf at that college. I had a 3.95 first quarter, a 4.15 second quarter, and finished off exams with a 4.0 average for the semester.
Going forward, I am looking to pursue a career in Engineering and/or Marketing and Business. I would love to pursue those degrees while being able to play golf in college. When I see something I want, I am extremely motivated to do whatever I can to achieve that, so I am working hard physically by improving my game and getting stronger in the weight room, and academically by pursuing better grades.
