My name is Piya Tedsana. I am 19 years old. I started playing hockey at the age of 10 in 2014 at PeeWee B, later than most of my teammates, having moved to the US from Thailand in 2012. I took a lot of private coaching and spent every available minute on the ice to catch up to my peers and developing more skills. I have always played forward, occasionally filling in on defense. Until my coach in Midget 16AA moved me full time to defense, recognizing that I was a fast backward skater, powerful, physical and has strong defensive skills. I now play as a defensemen full time. I have the ability to consistently break the puck out of the defensive zone and through the neutral zone making me a valuable utility player. I would consider myself as an offensive defensemen. The biggest challenge for my teammates is keeping up when I break out. I am a strong team player, I respond well to coaching feedback, and I am always looking for the best play or for a teammate in a better position to do whatever it takes to score and win. My biggest weakness, which I am working on right now is my tendency to look for a pass when I should be taking more shots. I never wanted to be one of those greedy players who constantly lose possession of the puck because they always want to take the shot rather than passing to an open teammate when under pressure… I’m over that now and that has improved my game a lot. I was considering my options to either play Juniors in 2020/21 or finish my Senior year with the Varsity team and that’s what I did. Before moving to Juniors hockey and ended up playing in the NA3HL. In the future I would love to play tier II and possibly play in Division I.
