I want to play at a college level and/or play at higher level hockey because I love the sport and everything that comes with it. I want to prove to myself that I can do it and reach my full potential. I feel that college hockey is one of the best ways to do so. College hockey will keep pushing me to be my best self from staying in shape to leading a team. College hockey creates an opportunity to play and compete at a very high level of hockey but also sets me up for life after hockey. I feel that the opportunity to play hockey and get a good education is one of the best moves for me.
I feel I would be a good candidate for your team because I know my role in and out of the hockey rink. First of all, I know my abilities/potential in both academics and as a hockey player. I know that good grades are crucial to being successful in anything I attempt to achieve. I am an A/B+ student, and my current GPA is 3.79 I also realize that being the third line defenceman is almost as important as being the first. I understand that there are niches to be filled in every corner of life. I would do my best to try and fill the niches whether that is being the all-star defenceman that scores goals and puts up points or the gritty defenceman who blocks shots on the penalty kill and moves the puck from the corners to the open man. I understand that every team is looking for different types of players. The type of player I strive to be is a puck-moving offensive defenceman. In the offensive aspect of the game, I skate the puck up the ice and gain the offensive zone. The entire way I always look for good, smart passes to create the best scoring opportunity possible for my team. I tend to carry the puck and drive the outside and cut to the net to create a good scoring opportunity, If that opportunity does not arise I often take the puck behind the net and look for the person on my team with the most time and space, or for a nice little backdoor pass. When already in the zone I look for a hole in the defense to sneak into and put a shot on the goal. On the power play, I currently run the top of the umbrella and then move into a place where I can get a one-timer off. On the defensive side of the game, I strive to not let the other team into the zone. I prefer to step up before or at the blue line to keep the other teams scoring opportunities at a minimum. I do not look for the big hits for I would rather just take the puck and go. I just made the First Team All-Conference in the 5A North Division as a sophomore in Colorado high school hockey.
My goal for hockey is to play for a D1 college team. I would love to play for a college in the Minnesota/ Michigan area, but I would be happy anywhere hockey is.
Thank you for your time.
