I believe hockey is the best sport on the planet. It’s like an alternative universe where emotions, strength, power, finesse, will, physicality and sacrifice can all meet. Hockey has not only shaped my life, but hockey has become my life.
Hockey, due to the location where I live, Miami, Florida, has caused greater obstacles than that of a kid living up north. Hockey, as many other sports, is all about exposure. Being that I play hockey in the southern most ice rink in the United States, makes it that much more difficult, demanding and rewarding to have the opportunity to play college hockey.
My goal for college is to be able to play competitive hockey and still follow my dream to attend medical school and become a doctor. My parents have always preached school over sports, and I am lucky to realize the importance of grades to attend a prestigious college and play the sport I love. I have maintained a vigorous work schedule, achieve high grades, play two sports, hockey and lacrosse, and still have fun outside of school. I am currently a junior at Coral Reef Senior High School and have a 3.7 GPA unweighted and a 4.6 weighted GPA. I have completed one AP course (AP Psychology), currently taking AP Biology and AP Language and Composition and plan on taking four AP's my senior year.
I have also had the opportunity to give back to my community. In fact, by giving to the community, the community has even more positively affected me. Since seventh grade I have not only participated but been selected to the highly prestigious and recognized Presidents Council at the Friendship Circle organization. The Friendship Circle is a chance to donate your time and friendship to children with special needs who may feel neglected and lonely because of their differences. Shortly after joining the Friendship Circle I was nominated for the Presidents Council at the Friendship Circle. This program is only offered to the elite and well-deserved volunteers who outshine the requirements and duties of being a volunteer.
This past season was my ninth season of ice hockey. In this past season I played for my local high school team, which I was selected captain of my team, selected for the leagues all-star game, and selected as winner of the Hobey Baker award for my team. Also, this 2015-2016 season I played for a U18 AA team, the Florida Golden Wolves, as a second year U16 because all my AAA teammates left to go play up North. We played an instate season in the SAHOF league and we participated in the EJEPL hockey league. In the season before the 2015-2016 season I played for a tier 1 hockey team, the Florida Alliance AAA. Before that I played for the Miami Toros. On this team we were in the top five in the nation for AA teams and made it to the national championship final where we lost 3-1 to the USA Eagles and I scored the only goal in that game. In addition this upcoming April I will be again participating in the USA hockey development camp tryouts. In the previous years I have advanced to the Southeast regional level. As a hockey player I love to be the hardest worker on the ice at all times in every and any situation, I am never afraid to throw a body or take a hit to get the puck to where it needs to be, and will do whatever is necessary to help my team get the puck into the net.
