Joe Widick '21 Recruiting Profile

My name is Joe Widick I am a student at St. Charles East high school and I play for my high school hockey team the Fox Valley Hawks. I am a good student with a current GPA of 3.2.   One of my goals since I was young was to play hockey at the college level. I have a lot of good character traits.  For example, I am easy going, like to laugh and enjoy time with my friends and family, I'm a hard worker and a very loyal and dedicated individual.   I have been playing hockey for 13 years now and I have played in house hockey,  travel hockey and now high school.  At the travel level I have accomplished the following awards:  won MVP at various tournaments, was the starting goalie for the Bantam Major Gold team that won the President's Cup in 2016 as well as the league play off (Wolves Cup) game in the same year, won MVP of the All Star Game for the North Central division of the IHSHL in 2018. In 2019 NA3HL Elite Prospects I was drafted by the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks in the 6th round #183 .  I have been accepted and will be attending Eastern Kentucky University in the Fall of 2021. I am studying Fire Administration & Safety.

For the past four years, I have worked hard to achieve my goals by working out with a personal trainer 4-6 times per week during the summer and 1-2 times per week during the hockey season.  Also during both in and off season, I work with a private goalie instructor to maintain the fundamental goalie skills.  

I have been informed by many coach's that I have the perfect temperament for the goalie position which cannot be taught or learned. For example when I do get scored on, I maintain my composer and use it as fuel to block additional shots on goal instead of getting down on myself.  In addition, coach's have commented on how "coachable" I am and I have always been well liked by my fellow teammates.
