Growing up, I always considered myself to a math/science person, but in recent years I've found myself developing a love of history. Much of my fascination with history comes from my grandparents, both of whom are Holocaust survivors. As I grew older, they would tell me their stories about survival, perseverance, and dependence upon the kindness of strangers. My grandfather even wrote a book about his experience and gave me a personalized signed copy. I've also recently discovered that I really enjoy working with children. In college, I hope to combine these two interests by majoring in education and studying to become a history teacher .
It has also always been my dream to play collegiate hockey. I started off as a defensemen, but everything changed once I strapped on my goalie pads for the first time when I was eight. I love standing in the net, watching plays develop, and anticipating what's going to happen next. My ability to read plays has always been one of my strengths. I've always understood what it takes to win, both on a personal level, and on team level. I've really worked on developing my mental strength, always staying composed, and tuning out everything except the play that is developing in front of me. I approach each situation thinking that it's just me vs the puck, and I'm going to win the battle. Coaches have often told me that what sets me apart from everyone else is that I'm truly a student of the game, and that I always accept feedback as a way to improve my play.
I truly love the game of hockey. I love the physicality, the need for mental toughness, and just the sheer beauty of the game when it is played well. I see myself as always being involved in the game, as a college player, and then someday, as a coach. Hockey has taught me a lot about hard work, dedication, focus, and how to manage disappointment. These are lessons that will serve me well as I enter the adult world and have to navigate all of the challenges that life will throw my way.
