Ever since I could walk, I've had a hockey stick in my hand and I would play shinny with my mom and dad in the family room of our house. I soon learned all of the referee's penalty signals and all of the rules of hockey. Mom and dad started me out with skating lessons when I turned 3 and then I joined a learn to play class at age 4. I've been on the ice ever since.
My dad is a goalie and he tried to get me to follow in his skates, but I found being in the net too boring. I quickly turned to being a defensive defenseman. I never cared that much about my offensive production - my main goal was to allow no goals while I'm on the ice. For the 2021-22 season, as a second year bantam, I worked very hard to add the offensive component to my game. I scored 10 goals and had 18 assists, finished up with a +41 for the year and won a state championship.
For the 2022-23 season, I joined the Des Moines Capitals high school club team. I play defense on both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. This season I'm focusing on continuing to improve the offensive aspect of my game and I'm also working hard in the weight room. So far I've been able to add nearly 20 pounds of muscle which has helped me win battles in front of the net and in the corners.
I have always tried to be a leader on and off the ice. I always help my teammates who might be struggling with a drill, skill, or positioning. My coaches recognized my leadership and made me one of the team captains for my bantam team.
Off the ice, I just completed my freshman year at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, IA. I'm an honors student, taking advanced math, English, science, and engineering classes, and I'm a member of the class of 2026. I have straight A's in all of my classes. I enjoy playing the drums and the guitar and I am an altar server at my local parish. I also play lacrosse during the hockey off season and I am hopeful that I can play both sports in college.
