Alexis Oukes '21 Recruiting Profile

    Growing up in Canada hockey was just a way of life and each fall meant a new hockey season. Although I didn’t begin playing hockey until I was 7 I started figure skating when I was 4 years old. After my first season playing hockey I realized how much I loved the sport and couldn’t stop.  Stepping on the ice each day I had the opportunity improve and work on new skills.  From there hockey began to be part of my lifestyle.  Over the past years I have had many different coaches with different techniques and teaching styles.  I am very coach -able, since I have adapted to many different coaches and their coaching styles.  I have learned many valuable lessons like time-management, hard work, leadership, team work and, work ethic.

    Since I live far from the rest of my hockey team I have had to be self motivated, completing work outs and practicing on my own. This is when I realized that I wanted to play hockey at the next level when I began doing more off the ice and on my own. During off  ice training it has taught me commitment and time management skills. Playing competitive hockey requires a lot of traveling and late nights. Whether it is in the airport, in the car or at the hotel between games I have to make time to study and complete homework in order to maintain my 3.8 GPA. I am interested in playing hockey at the next level and studying Physical Therapy.  After many years of playing travel hockey I look forward to playing at the college level and bringing my knowledge about the game with me to learn and share with my new team.
