Heath Drye '18 Recruiting Profile

I am a versatile forward who has experience playing center and left wing. I am most at home in the offensive zone but I’ll be the first to backcheck a guy down and play defense. I am a smooth, powerful skater with good speed. My vision for the ice, creative puck handling skills and instinctive playmaking ability set me apart from other players. These skills and leadership also help me to make other players around me better.

Some have referred to me as a late bloomer. Others might see this as a negative, but I see it as an opportunity. Being the “little guy” all of those years has forced me to work twice as hard. Now as I am growing and catching everyone, I have maintained that same work ethic. I have always played bigger than my size. I have good physical strength, which I am constantly improving, and will mix it up with anyone. I never back down from physical play. What I’ve lacked in size I’ve always made up with raw talent, heart, and determination.

It wasn’t until recently that I grasped the importance academics plays in this process. With this realization came a new determination to be the best student I can be these last few years of high school. It is important to me to prove to myself, my parents, current and future coaches that I will do whatever it takes to be a successful student-athlete. I am proud to say that my GPA improved during my sophomore year and I am on track to graduate with my goal GPA of 3.0.

I am looking forward to continuing my growth both physically and mentally in a junior program so I can be at my best when I head to college. My goal is to play Division 1 hockey while studying for my bachelor's degree. Currently, I am undecided in my major, but I am interested in sports training and owning my own business. I know that my confidence, passion, winning mentality, professional approach, and leadership will make me a great asset to your team!
