Personal Statement

My collegiate goal is to obtain a Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year University while possibly playing hockey.  I played juniors with the Alexandria Blizzard to gain experience and improve my game.

I am a good student and have the drive to succeed in my academic goals. Similarly, I feel I am a strong candidate to play hockey at the collegiate level because I put forth the same drive in hockey. I am a consistent and level-headed defenseman with size, strength, and speed.  I am constantly improving and learning from my mistakes both on and off the ice. I thrive on constructive criticism and feedback to help identify my strengths and weaknesses in order to improve upon them. I use that to guide me to become a better hockey player.  My high school team was challenged which helped me become a better defenseman because I had to learn to anticipate plays, be flexible and make quick decisions on the ice.  Furthermore, by playing against some of the top players in youth hockey, Minnesota high school hockey and the NA3HL, I gained valuable experience that would be an asset when playing at the collegiate level.

I believe I stand out from other recruits because of my consistent and level-headed play on the ice.  I remain calm in the face of adversity and show genuine sportsmanship towards teammates and opponents.  I am a leader and provide my teammates with support both on and off the ice. I set an example for teammates and youth hockey players by working hard and showing up to practice, games and volunteer opportunities. I also practice good health habits and I am able to balance school, sports and family at all times, which is important for all collegiate athletes.

  • AHR Scouting report: "DeLain is a good rearguard who handled his business and was active enough to jump in and help on the rush. He was aware of net front and shut down opponents with a good compete level. He was aware of his surroundings and adapted to them well. He held the OZ blue line and kept the puck moving in the right direction. He has a good sense about him and showed potential. He has size and can bring depth to any roster. "

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
